Record producer

A record producer (or music producer) has a very broad role in overseeing and managing the recording (i.e. "production") of a band or performer's music. A producer has many roles that may include, but are not limited to, gathering ideas for the project, selecting songs and/or session musicians, proposing changes to the song arrangements, coaching the artist and musicians in the studio, controlling the recording sessions, and supervising the entire process through audio mixing (recorded music) and, in some cases, to the audio mastering stage. Producers also often take on a wider entrepreneurial role, with responsibility for the budget, schedules, contracts, and negotiations.

In the 2010s, the recording industry has two kinds of producers with different roles: executive producer and music producer. Executive producers oversee project finances while music producers oversee the creation of music.

A music producer can, in some cases, be compared to a film director, with noted practitioner Phil Ek describing his role as "the person who creatively guides or directs the process of making a record, like a director would a movie. The audio engineering [person] would be more the cameraman of the movie." Indeed, in Bollywood music, the designation actually is music director. The music producer's job is to create, shape, and mold a piece of music. The scope of responsibility may be one or two songs or an artist's entire album – in which case the producer will typically develop an overall vision for the album and how the various songs may interrelate.

John Hill (police officer)

Sir John Maxwell Hill CBE DFC QPM (25 March 1914 – 6 May 2004) was a British police officer.

Hill was born in Plymouth, the son of a civil servant. He was educated at Plymouth College and joined the Metropolitan Police as a Constable in 1933. In 1938 he was selected for Hendon Police College and passed out the following year.

During the Second World War, Hill served in the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. Enlisting in 1942, he was commissioned (from the rank of Leading Aircraftman) as a Pilot Officer in February 1944. In August 1944 he was promoted Flying Officer. In September 1945, while serving with 622 Squadron, he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross (DFC).

Hill was promoted Deputy Commander at Scotland Yard in 1959. In 1963, he was promoted Commander and appointed second-in-command of No.3 District (North-East London). In 1964 he transferred to No.1 District (North-West London) and in 1965 he was appointed one of HM Inspectors of Constabulary.

He returned to the Metropolitan Police as Assistant Commissioner "A" (Operations and Administration) in October 1966. In 1968 he become Assistant Commissioner "D" (Personnel and Training), and on 1 April 1972 he was appointed Deputy Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis. He was appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in 1969.

John Hill (Australian politician)

John David Hill (born 3 December 1949), Australian politician, represented the electoral district of Kaurna in the South Australian House of Assembly for the Australian Labor Party from 1997 to 2014.

Born in Sydney, Hill attended the University of Sydney and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts. He moved to South Australia in 1974 and became a teacher. He also studied at the University of Adelaide and received his law degree.

Following a brief stint as a ministerial adviser during the Bannon Government, Hill became a party official, becoming State Secretary in 1994. He was elected to Parliament as member for Kaurna at the 1997 state election.

After Labor won the 2002 election, Hill became a minister in the Rann Government. Initially given the portfolios of Minister for Environment and Conservation, Minister for the River Murray, Minister for the Southern Suburbs, Minister Assisting the Premier in the Arts and Minister for Gambling, Hill gained his current portfolios after a number of cabinet reshuffles.

He was nominated for "Producer of the Year" for the 57th Annual Grammy Awards.

He has worked at Sonora Recorders in Los Feliz, California.
